Yes, this was my second trip to Hawaii this year and yes I am going to look into going somewhere different for my next vacation. But in January we went as roommates and we flew over to the big island for two reasons: to see manta rays (which is what my roommate Cheryl wanted to do) and I wanted to see lava.
Well, neither happened on the roommate trip.
However, by then I was so pumped to see manta rays as well, I added it to my bucket list. So I planned another trip for September with my sister and finally success. We were able to see both lava and manta rays. The lava was so cool...actually it is about 1900 degrees when it enters the water. And I am so glad the manta rays came to visit. We saw anywhere from five to nine manta rays. Manta rays are like sting rays but much larger. One of the ones that came to our "campfire in the water" was 16 foot "big bertha." Anyway they would swim right up to you and do a little dance in the water. It was unbelievable.

Yay! Thanks for posting! I am jealous of your trip - that would be so cool to see!
I'm so jealous! It isn't right, you seeing them before me and all. :)
